Spring Renewal: How to Reset, Reflect, and Grow in Love and Life Skip to the content

Time for Spring Renewal

Spring Renewal

As I walk around the same places I go to and notice the shift in seasons from winter to spring, I am in absolute awe of the ways nature grows. All the “empty” trees from winter that were clearly hibernating, yet growing deeper roots, are starting to bud and bloom. What also brings awe is that there is no comparison amongst this natural growth as we enter spring. I happen to be walking on trails where there are extraordinary redwoods and oak trees, along with other beautiful blossoms. Some that only grow in the spring and others that are consistent through every season, no matter what. There is no comparison about the stages of growth they are in. Each part of nature grows at its own pace, yet shares the same environment. One invitation in the renewal of spring is to grow in a way that is right for each of us, and yet together with each other.

Learning from nature

As we enter spring in the northern hemisphere, the invitation is to reflect, reset, and renew. Nature is happily in its stage of growth, in a way that is natural and right for its own experience. Every season is a different teacher. Spring is all about growing in ways that we have been preparing for, being able to see the fruits of our hard work after coming out of winter.

In the Heartwork, I ask my relationship coaching clients to take a moment to reflect on what is starting to bloom in their life and relationships with themselves, their loved ones, and their family. Being in this stage of reflection allows us to have the confidence and the sense of self to continue to grow in unexpected ways. This reflection gives us permission to also reset our energy in ways that allow us to renew.

A couple of practices:

Go back six months and begin reflecting from this point forward to the present moment. It’s amazing when we notice where we were just six months ago and what was unfolding compared to where we are now. When we actually take the time to do this, we can see how much has evolved and see the ways that we are inevitably growing. This allows us to build that confidence we need to sustain our growth. Our hard work does pay off, even if sometimes it’s subtle and other times it’s massive growth. So take the time to reflect.

Another practice for spring is to go through your “stuff” in your physical spaces and notice what you’ve outgrown, because of all the ways you’ve grown. It’s important for us to let go and make room for our growth. This allows us to be in the renewal of what is yet to come.

Stages of Growth

Another lesson from nature is honoring the stage of growth we’re in. Maybe you’ve just gone through a heartbreak and you’re ready to call in new love. Maybe you’ve been in a relationship for three decades and you’re out of the nesting stage and you’re ready to ignite new energy into your current relationship. No matter what stage of growth you’re in, the invitation is to release comparison to where your best friend or mentor or partner may be. Ask yourself genuinely, what stage of growth am I in right now? And take steps that are right for you.

Embrace Spring

There is so much beauty growing in nature right now. Let’s give ourselves permission in this truly chaotic world to embrace the season of spring, to enjoy the season of spring, to learn from this season of spring. Despite our differences, can we love? Despite our different stages of growth, can we grow? Despite what you are letting go of, can we be present and invite in the new?
